THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF LAS VEGAS NAMES NEW PRESIDENT FOR 2009-10 FISCAL YEAR Influential Not-for-profit Unveils New Board of Directors Las Vegas, NV - 8 June, 2009: The Junior League of Las Vegas, Inc. (JLLV), a women’s volunteer organization committed to developing the potential of women and improving the community, has announced the appointment of the 2009-2010 Board of Directors. The Board will be lead by the new President, Bonnie Winkleman of Las Vegas. Winkleman will be the principal executive officer of one of Las Vegas’ most influential fundraising organizations. Each year JLLV, headquartered on Bridger Avenue, deploys hundreds of volunteers in the greater Las Vegas communities it serves- primarily Las Vegas, as well as North Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin, Boulder City and contributes thousands of dollars in grant money to its community partner organizations. The organization also distributes educational grants of up to $1,500 each to teachers with needs relating to education. Since its inception 35 years ago, the JLLV has provided approximately one million volunteer hours and an estimated $1 million to more than 100 community programs. "I am honored to represent such a dynamic group of women who, for decades, have been a driving force serving the needs of women and children in Clark County. The Junior League of Las Vegas will award 50,000 in education grants to local teachers again this fall in addition to our many other community projects. We will spend this year focusing on connections: strengthening our existing community partnerships and creating new connections with agencies and individuals who can benefit from our volunteer services. “We’re most excited about our proposed KaBoom! playground refurbishment at Rose Warren Elementary School and we'll be looking for community partners for that project as well.
